FBA User Management issues

We have installed CKS:FBA for a new SharePoint 2007 extranet we built so we could manage our user's permissions.  When I create a new user (username, password, email) and select some of the tick box options we created for folder access and then press save, it creates the user fine but does not remember what tick boxes I choose.  So, everytime, I need to go back to that user's profile and select the tick box options again and save again and then it works.

Also, is there a way to quickly find a name in the list of users apart from sorting by the various columns?  Getting to the usernames beginning with 'n', or 'm' normally means scrolling through half the pages of users.
