How do I add the template to "create site collection"

Hi Lawrence and team,
Firstly: The Community kit is a great template. Looks great.

I have uploaded the template to the "site templates" in an existing site collection. Works well.
Question: How can I add the template to the default site templates (in central admin) so i can create a new site collection (root level site) based on the template?

I did think the STP files were really ZIPs that i could expand into the TEMPLATE\Site Templates folder but after renaming the STP file it won't open.

Thanks
Andrew

Hi!

To create a new site collection using stp template you have to upload it to general (root) template gallery. To do this you have to use command line utility stsadm.

1. Use this command: stsadm -o addtemplate -filename CKS_UGE_1.0.stp -title "CKS UGE 1.0"

2. Then restart IIS: iisreset

3. Create new site collection with CKS UGE template.

4. Enjoy.
